Obituary of Donald R. Chilson

Donald R. Chilson, 84, of Karlen Road, Rome, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born September 5, 1933 in Sylvan Beach, the son of Ralph and Myrtle (McClanathan) Chilson. Don graduated from Camden High School and then went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was married to Joyce Plopper in 1953. They raised their family together and shared many happy years until her death in 1998. Don was a mechanical engineer, operating for O'Shea Plumbing and Heating for 27 years. He also owned Utica -Rome Mechanical Contractors of Whitesboro; he held a Master Plumbing License in both Rome and Utica. Donald also developed real estate; he developed Parkside Estates along with Hilson Drive East and West. Don was a founding member of the Lake Delta United Methodist Church, where he was chair of the board of trustees. He was also past president of the Lake Delta Kiwanis. He is survived by his two daughters, Rhonda Broman of Lakeville, N.Y., Paula ( Victor )Kuhlman of Arizona; his four grandchildren, Bryan (Sarin) LoMascolo, Kyle LoMascolo, Jason ( Megan )Broman, John (Deanna) Broman; two great grandchildren John and Shea Broman; his fiancée Barbara Bentley, her daughter Robin (Mike) Campanaro; grandchildren Danielle and Chelsea and great grandchildren, Madison, Mia and Matthew. Don leaves behind extended family and many friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Delta United Methodist Church 6285 Hawkins Corners Road Rome N.Y. 13440 All are invited to call Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5-8pm at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 30, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. at the Delta United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery
