Obituary of Joseph Owens

Joseph (Joe) Owens of Rome, New York passed away on October 26, 2017 after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease. Joseph was born October 31, 1932 in Mullins, South Carolina. He was one of 10 children to McKinley and Lizzy Gerald Owens. Joe served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. After being stationed in Japan, he finished his enlistment at Griffiths Air Force Base in Rome, New York. Joseph worked for Rome Cable for 26 years and spent several more years working at Oneida Limited. His co-workers said Joe was a hard worker and always willing to help others on the job. After Joe retired he still worked on his own moving furniture and trimming trees. Joe is survived by his longtime companion Sandra Vaughn and her children Daniel, William, and Donna from Rome New York, sisters Quebelle Crawford from Chester PA, Barbara (Bobbi) Owens and Dorothy Harrington from Columbus, OH, sons Craig Owens from Utica, New York and Allen Owens from Oceanside, CA, his granddaughter Holly Owens from Utica, New York, grandson Joseph Cochise Owens from Buffalo, New York, his great grandsons John and Joey Cardone from Utica, New York and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 12:00P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, N.Y. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. prior to the service .In lieu of flowers the family is asking that you make a donation to the charity or organization of your choice in Joe's honor.
