James A. Berg, 88, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly with his loving wife and family at his side on Thursday August 10, 2017.
He was born on February 15, 1929 in Rome, a son of Anthony and Helen Conners.
James was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp serving during 1946 to 1947. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gloria Finley. On August 6, 1979 he married Lillian Rounds McDonald.
James was a truck driver retiring from Rome Express after more than 45 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rome; American Legion; Disabled American Veterans; Rome Elks club. He was an avid hunter and belonged to several area hunting clubs. James also enjoyed camping and bowling.
In addition to his first wife Gloria, he was predeceased by a son James, Jr. and a stepdaughter Neila Barlow.
James is survived by his wife Lillian; a son, Jeffery Berg (Wendy); two daughters, Judy Smith and Jackie Nash; stepchildren, Darlene (the late Patrick) Burns of Ava, Danny McDonald of Rome and Paula (David) Aregood. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a thank you to his special friend Ralph Pasqualicchio.
Friends may call Monday, August 14, 2017 from 10am to 11am at the Strong-Burns and Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, where the funeral service will follow at 11 am. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Churchville, NY.
