Obituary of Lyle E. Lutz
Lyle E. Lutz, 97 of Vernon, died peacefully at home with his wife and daughter at his side, on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Lyle was born on August 26, 1926, in Rome, NY to the late George D. and Faith (Gardinier) Lutz. He was the youngest of six siblings and loved growing up in Rome. In 1944, not waiting to attend his high school graduation ceremony from RFA, Lyle enlisted in the US Navy where he served until 1946.
He and his wife Donna, a woman who could keep up with his adventurous lifestyle, celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage. Lyle retired after 33 years working at the Research Lab (RADC) at Griffiss Air Force Base as an electronics technician.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed baseball, golf, bowling (achieving two perfect games), snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle.
A favorite and often repeated memory, Lyle cherished shoveling snow in childhood with his father, an activity that became a special tradition with his daughter.
He was a country gardener, an animal lover and long time resident who was frequently seen walking and greeting the neighbors.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Donna; daughter, Jennifer Lyle; step-son, Dean; and the favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Helen Smith, Gretta Dunn, Katherine Ouderkirk; two brothers, Seymour and George Lutz.
