Obituary of Robert James Hollibaugh

Robert J. Hollibaugh, 71, of Rome, NY, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2023, with his wife by his side. Born on January 10, 1952, in Mercer County, PA, he was the son of Samuel J. and Mildred Levitt Hollibaugh. Following graduation from high school, Robert was employed as a millworker, and he was also employed as a home healthcare aide by Caregivers of Utica, New York. 

Robert was united in marriage to Belva Taylor on January 12, 1973, and they were married for 50 years, with whom he shared three children. Robert was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed spending time outdoors enjoying nature. He also enjoyed time spent with friends and family and was incredibly proud of his role as grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Robert leaves behind his beloved wife, Belva Taylor Hollibaugh of Rome; his daughter, Michelle (Michael) Bates of Rome; his son, Samuel Joseph Hollibaugh II, and fiance, Selina Storms of Rome, and his daughter, Jennifer (Lester) Ware of Long Island; Grandchildren, Michael Ballou, Vanessa Fredette, Joshua and Matthew Bates, Crystal and Diamond Ware; Great grandson Garrett Ballou; and his sister Patty Walker. His brothers, Donald, Thomas, and William Hollibaugh, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be from 10-12 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Friendship Baptist Church, 4964 Rome-New London Road, Rome, NY 13440. A funeral service will follow at noon. The burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Lee.
