Obituary of Dawn L. LaSalle
Dawn L. LaSalle, 80 of Rome, NY passed away on July 23, 2023, at SUNY Upstate Hospital following a brief illness. Born on July 14, 1943, in Rome, NY, a daughter of the late Armeta Vrooman Standen. Dawn was educated at Rome Free Academy and graduated in 1961. Following graduation, Dawn continued her education and had a successful career as a mental hygiene therapy aide at Rome D.D.S.O until her retirement in 1998.
Dawn was united in marriage to Roger A. LaSalle on June 5, 1965 in a ceremony that took place at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center, NY. They shared a blessed union together until his passing on March 1, 1995. Dawn enjoyed playing the slot machines, was always up for a card game, and was a gifted Bingo player. Dawn most enjoyed her time spent with family and friends; she never missed a hockey game, concert, or play. Her greatest joy came from her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Copper City Community Connection, South Rome Senior Center, and a lifelong supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dawn is survived by her daughters Kimberly and John Rogers of Rome, Kelly LaSalle of Rome; grandchildren Amanda (Matthew) Mills, Aaron Rogers (Rebecca Cafarelli), Seth Abel, and Sydney LaSalle; great grandchildren Logan Mills and Greyson Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband Roger LaSalle, sister Shelley Woodhouse, and special friend Thomas Chilluffo.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Vanderhoof and the nursing staff at Oneida Health for their exceptional care, her physician Randy Czternastek for his advocacy and the Comfort Care and Oncology staff at SUNY Upstate for their compassion and care.
Friends and family are invited to call Thursday July 27, 2023, from 4:00-7:00pm at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY 13440. A funeral service will follow immediately after calling hours. The burial will take place at Evergreen Stokes Cemetery at a later date.
