Obituary of Joelle Colangelo

Joelle Colangelo was born in Rome, New York on August 12, 1950, daughter of the late Joseph and Louise LaGatta. She entered Heaven’s gates on August 5, 2019. 

Joelle was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Monday night St. Jude Novena Group at Transfiguration Church. Joelle loved spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed playing cards and Bunco, watching her kids and grandkids play sports, and she was an avid bocce player at the Toccolano Club. 

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 41 years, Gary Colangelo, two beloved daughters; Ashlee (Chad) Thompson and Kelly Colangelo; three loved and cherished grandchildren; Ashton Francis, Alexa Louise, and Carter Gary; special cousins more like brothers; Paul Vaccaro, John Vaccaro, Ken Vaccaro, and Gregory Voci; a special uncle Anthony “Tokes” Ciccotti and so many other family members and friends.

The family wish to thank the many wonderful nurses and staff that they have encountered during the last 3.5 years of Joelle’s illness. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominck St., Rome, New York, 13440. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 8th, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome NY 13440.
